INDIA
India is the nation that makes up the majority of South Asia. Its national capital, New Delhi, was constructed in the 20th century to serve as India’s administrative center and is located just south of the ancient heart of Old Delhi. The country is composed of 28 states and eight union territories. Its constitution-based republican administration serves a remarkably multilingual and ethnically varied populace that spans thousands of years. In 2023, India surpassed all other countries in the world in population, according to UN estimates.
Archaeological evidence has established that the Indus civilization, a highly developed urbanized society, ruled the northwest region of the subcontinent between 2600 and 2000 BCE. Since then, India has operated as a mostly independent political and cultural space, giving rise to a unique heritage primarily connected with Hinduism, which may have originated in the Indus civilization. India is the birthplace of several other religions, most notably Buddhism and Jainism, both of which are now relatively rare. Over the ages, people living in the subcontinent have flourished intellectually in areas like mathematics, astronomy, architecture, literature, music, and the fine arts.
